L.A.R.P., or Live Action Role Play, is a unique form of interactive entertainment where participants physically embody and portray characters within a fictional setting. Unlike traditional tabletop role-playing games, L.A.R.P. engages players in real-world scenarios, transforming a location into the backdrop of their story. Players interact in character, using costumes, props, and sometimes even mock combat to bring the narrative to life. In these games, participants pursue specific goals, engage in adventures, and make decisions that directly influence the outcome of the game. The real-world environment serves as the stage, while characters—whether heroes, villains, or supporting figures—collaborate or compete in a shared, immersive experience.

River City LARP, based in Louisville, Kentucky, hosts four immersive weekend events each year, where their primary focus is on achieving total "immersion." To create the most authentic and fulfilling role-playing experience, all participants are encouraged to remain in character for the duration of each event. Both Playing Characters (PCs) and Non-Playing Characters (NPCs) interact within the game's fictional world, with their choices and actions shaping the storyline's progress. Characters earn Experience Points (XP) to unlock new skills, abilities, and maneuvers, making the evolution of each character an integral part of the gameplay. Character creation is an entirely player-driven process, supported by River City LARP’s rulebook and online tools, designed to guide both new and experienced players through the journey of building their unique in-game personas.
